By now you have probably heard about the amazing meeting between the Dalai Lama and Lady Gaga following the tragic Orlando shootings. It occurred at 84th annual Conference of Mayors in Indianapolis. Not only did their internationally broadcasted conversation serve to heal a lot of tensions around the country, it showed the world that perception is seldom as it should be.
Lady Gaga has proven over and over again that she is more than just a fashion and musical icon. She represents true authenticity and is absolutely in tune with her reflective soul. GaGa has demonstrated that when you speak your own truth and come from a place of conscious and mindful living that you can make a much bigger impact in the world.
It is no surprise that when Gaga sat down with the Dalai Lama that they both shared their thoughts on what it means to be selfless and share with others.
"When you show more sense of concern of others' well-being, then you also get the feeling, 'Oh, I am something useful to others,'" the Dalai Lama said.
Both have shown a commitment to full awareness of the plights of others. Just through communication and authentic living you too can make a big impact in the world. Our deeds and actions, when they come from a place of mindfulness and consciousness, have the ability to transform the lives of others.
More and more the younger generation is becoming more spiritually aware. Lady Gaga is a great touchstone to access those who seek to be part of something great than themselves. She expresses through her music and social activism directly to the younger generation.
In difficult times we sometimes find ourselves stuck in the past. Instead of being mindful and living in the moment it easy to find ourselves living in what we perceive to be a dark past. Through her song "Born This Way" Gaga has been able to share with younger folks that we are perfect as we are and to not let our past dictate our present and future.
"Past is nobody can change. Future, yet to come. So there is possibility of change. The younger generation have to create more healthy environment," he said
The duo discussed the importance of mindfulness and mediation and how using those tools you can absolutely have brighter days ahead. Even when the world seems to be falling apart during a time of tragedy it is imperative that we go within and find the greater good.
"Once a tragic situation happens, not avoid -- look at more deeply, widely," the Dalai Lama said. "Many positive, happy things are there if you look from a wider perspective. If you look real closely, it appears unbearable. But if you look widely, you can see
other positive things there."
